About Us

Who We Are

The ministry is coordinated by Ruth Stromberg, Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker, with more than 25 years of experience as a Christian therapist.
Ruth co-founded the DARE Drop-In Respite Center with Loring Henderson and has functioned as Assistant Director for the first year of operation. She volunteered at the Lawrence Community Shelter for six years, leading Bible studies with their
guests on a weekly basis.

In recent months, Ruth has visited four Christian ministries for homeless addicts in the Midwest to learn best practices and assess training materials to be utilized with participants.

In the years that I have worked with people experiencing homelessness, I have too frequently heard them say, “I can’t get clean in Lawrence because my friends are all using.” It is on my heart for this statement to no longer be reality by establishing a dry option for those homeless men or women who want freedom from whatever captivity has been sabotaging their purpose in life.

The mission of Freedom Home Ministry is to provide a transitional home (6 months to 1 ½ years) to assist those who want a re-start from drugs and alcohol (following treatment) in a dry separate home for men and one for women. We want to facilitate transformation from old destructive life patterns utilizing a loving Christian perspective, for those who want this kind of change.
